VOICES FROM THE DARK: QUARANTINE NOT SAME FOR ALL

 

Is quarantine enough for our survival for this ongoing pandemic? Do you think quarantine is equally safe for every human being? The global mortality rate is increasing every day. Is it due to a pandemic only or is it something else?

Though it's a difficult situation and it has an effect on everyone, the ones working day to day just for two-time meals are greatly pushed back due to Covid and the lockdown measure. The Covid has pushed an additional of about 150 million people to extreme poverty. This pandemic has spared none, its impact on the poorer population is much more devastating which has revealed a stark gap between the rich and the poor. In 103 out of 158 countries surveyed in a recent report, at least 1 in 3 workers had no labor protections. For those living in extreme poverty, the bigger concern is not the virus but hunger.

Many donations have been given to poorer countries but the poor who needs them is never provided. The rich are always the ones taking away everything though they are not in need. Poor people are always pushed and press down by rich people. In the countries like Nepal and India, the level of corruption is so high that they don't even spare the food provided to the needy ones during the pandemic. The number of people facing food security has been doubled as a result of the pandemic. The poor is the one that dies of both disease and starvation. For the people working for daily wages the way of living is work, '' IF NO WORK, NO FOOD''.

The rich people are always confused about which food to eat, where should we eat, in which bed to sleep but the poor are depressed about what to eat, where to sleep, what to give to children. Life was difficult for the poor but this pandemic has created them with no option other than to die. Time has flown very fast for those ones with nothing to worry about and living with their loved ones but the poor are living in hell waiting for either pandemic or starvation to kill them. They are afraid of being homeless if the owner kicks them out, they are afraid of being spotted by the officers if they saw them searching for food, they are living in fear of dying every day. People are ready to commit crimes for the survival of their families and themselves.

Covid has shown the anger of nature which can result in the destruction of humans. If the pandemic goes on the increase, the law of nature of survival of the fittest may occur where humanity is lost and one human has to kill another in order to survive. Its best example can be seen in India when the second wave of Covid was seen which affected thousands of people at once which resulted in a scarcity of oxygen gas and we can see the crowd of people trying very hard to get one cylinder. We can see the tension and competition between them for just one oxygen cylinder.

Humans are the fittest species to survive and are tend to adapt according to the environment for survival. Humanity is the thing that makes us human but due to the current situation both humans and their humanity are at the stake of danger. So as human beings we must not forget the meaning of human beings, each and every life is precious and equal. No one can determine the price of the life of others . The current situation is out of our hands but we must remember the value of humanity rather than survival of our own. The voices that are hidden in the dark afraid to come out must be shown to the word rather than pushing back. The rich and the poor have their own way, own struggle, and own stories. They should be shown and never suppressed.
